  7.     The Cincinnati judge was careful to separate the hero from
  8. his misdeeds. "Today we are not dealing with the legend," he
  9. said before sentencing Pete Rose to five months in prison for
  10. cheating on his taxes. Baseball's record holder for number of
  11. hits (4,256) was also fined $50,000, and will have to spend
  12. three months in a halfway house and do 1,000 hours of community
  13. service. Earlier, in a courtroom only nine blocks from a street
  14. named in his honor, Rose told the judge that he was "very
  15. sorry, very shameful to be here today in front of you." Said
  16. he: "I have no excuses because it's all my fault."
